Spaghetti Bowl work gets bonus

Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 | 10:24 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- For the second time, Meadow Valley Corp. has earned a bonus for completing a segment early on the construction of the $92 million Spaghetti Bowl project.

The state Transportation Department said Wednesday Meadow Valley was paid $900,000 for finishing the ramp connecting westbound U.S. 95 to southbound Interstate 15 seven months ahead of schedule.

Bob McKenzie, public information officer for the department, said most of the work was done at night, reducing traffic interruptions. McKenzie said Meadow Valley earlier won an estimated $600,000 bonus for completing the section from I-15 northbound to west U.S. 95 earlier than called for in the contract.

He said the company can earn another $52,000 bonus if it demolishes the east-to-west bridge and the south-to-north bridges in the project ahead of schedule.

Bradley Larson, chief executive officer of Meadow Valley based in Phoenix, said it will share the incentive bonus with key subcontractors whose efforts contributed to the early completion date.

McKenzie said the bonuses are not all profit because overtime work was performed to move the project ahead. He said the full project is expected to be completed next summer, which will be six to seven months early.
