Man pleads guilty in murder, robbery

A Las Vegas man has become the second person to plead guilty to second-degree murder and robbery in the slaying of a 42-year-old man who apparently was trying to prevent a break-in and robbery at his home.

Dale Edward Moore, 30, will be sentenced Jan. 25 and faces the possibility of a life prison term with parole possible after 10 years for the murder and up to 15 years in prison for the robbery count.

District Judge Sally Loehrer already sentenced Moore's co-defendant, 42-year-old Sharon Elizabeth Fletcher, to life with parole after 10 years on her earlier guilty plea to second-degree murder. Moore was arrested shortly after the May 5 beating and strangulation murder of David Wayne Allen in his 920 W. Bonanza Road apartment.

Anti-brothel zealot says he faked death

RENO -- An anti-brothel crusader says he staged his disappearance last week to help bring attention to illegal prostitution in Nevada.

He met with detectives at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office in Reno Wednesday night after investigators tracked him down in Las Vegas.

Reese was missing for 10 days. Washoe County Sheriff's Lt. Doug Gist said investigators did not expect to file any charges against him.

Justice center gets $2 million more

Sometimes justice comes at a high price.

And sometimes the price can be high just to construct a building to house justice. That's what the city of Las Vegas is learning about the Regional Justice Center -- where cost overruns will cost the city at least $2 million more than originally planned.

The City Council on Wednesday approved $2 million for the now $120 million project that had an original price tag of $104.5 million. The vote was 4-0 with Mayor Oscar Goodman abstaining because he owns land near the planned building.

The city in 1998 agreed to house its Municipal Court in the downtown facility and provide $29 million for the project that also will include Clark County District and Justice courts. The city, by Wednesday's action, now will kick in $32.1 million.

Man arrested after home invasion

Henderson Police arrested a man after an intruder entered a woman's apartment Wednesday and threatened her and her two small children with a handgun.

The man was upset because he believed the woman had given information to the police leading to the arrest of two of his friends, police said.

Roper was charged with burglary, kidnapping, coercion, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, aiming a firearm and two counts of child endangerment.
