Letter: Pedestrians in serious peril crossing Bonanza
Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 | 9:45 a.m.
The problem is very serious, especially where I live. I moved to a senior complex at McKnight and Bonanza. A lot of us living here depend on the CAT bus for transportation.
We are a long block from Eastern. There is a crosswalk here. We have a 12-month school and a CAT bus stops here, but crossing the street is very dangerous.
Sometimes we have guards crossing for the school and flashing lights. Signs that are hard to see. There is no stoplight from Eastern to Mohave! And the drivers on Bonanza speed along. Only one unsafe crosswalk!
I've called about it and did get the right department one time -- but nothing has been done. We need a light there -- even a push-button light would help.
Recently when I crossed to get to the bus stop, I waited to see if the car would stop -- it did but I waited to see if the other car would stop. It didn't! I would have been hit if I had kept walking!
We have had people hit on Bonanza. I hope something will be done about this very serious problem.
A block east is a convenience store. The owner is very concerned about the people who cross Bonanza from a large housing complex. No crosswalk at that corner either.
Please do something.
