Canceled flights anger passengers

America West, already plagued by delays, has canceled more than 400 flights the past two weeks, stalling more than 50,000 passengers, the Arizona Republic reported.
America West is the No. 2 carrier at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, where it has a hub.
Close to half of those cancellations occurred Nov. 10-14, when America West was forced to take three Boeing 757 aircraft out of service until required maintenance was performed, company spokesman Steve Johnson said.
Federal Aviation Administration officials would not grant America West a short-term extension on the maintenance overhaul, and that forced the airline to park the planes until the work could be completed, Johnson said.
FAA officials in Phoenix would not comment on the America West maintenance issues or cancellations.
