Anchor unit gets new lottery deal

Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 | 11:22 a.m.

Las Vegas-based game designer Anchor Gaming said today its Automated Wagering International systems division was chosen to provide a new on-line and instant lottery system, retail terminals and related services to West Virginia.

Anchor didn't disclose the value of the contract, which is for five years and has two one-year extension options. The final contract hasn't been negotiated.

Anchor said it outbid GTECH and Scientific Games, the lottery's current vendors, to win the deal, which calls for installation of about 1,400 on-line terminals and 450 instant-ticket validation terminals to be completed by next July 1.

AWI will also provide the entire field sales and marketing support staff for both the instant and on-line products, as well as telemarketing, instant ticket warehousing and distribution, Anchor said.

Anchor Gaming distributes proprietary casino games, operates two casinos in Colorado and one racetrack and casino in New Mexico, and runs gaming-machine routes in Nevada and Montana.
