Henderson: Council considers development fees

The Henderson City Council will hold a public hearing on Dec. 7 on the proposed adoption of new development fees.
Some of the city's development fees have not been increased since the 1980s, and the city is proposing to increase its development-related fees to levels comparable to other municipalities in the Las Vegas Valley.
City Manager Phil Speight said the new fee schedules will offset costs associated with the new development in the city and expedite the development review process.
The city anticipates a need for 40 additional employees spread across five departments to meet the demand for development services at an anticipated cost of $3.5 million the first year and $3.3 million for subsequent years. The new positions should come online with the completion of a new development center in fall 2001, Speight said.
"We'll truly be able to expedite the review process," Speight said. "In some cases, an 11-week review will be reduced to a two-week review."
