A future school site may become a park for the time being, the Clark County School Board voted Tuesday night.
The board agreed to have the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department use 7.75 acres of land for recreational uses near Carey Avenue and Betty Lane, north of the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
Improvements on the site may include irrigation and seeding, playground improvements and landscaping.
If the district decides it needs the property for school facility use, the county will relinquish the site and improvements, the agreement says.
A memorandum of agreement for similar improvements was made for 10 acres of land at the northeast corner of the Mike O'Callaghan Middle School on Radwick Drive.
The county has agreed to work with the district on the designs and funding, and construction will be provided by the county. Additionally, the county will maintain and pay utilities associated with the improvements.
The School Board also voted to ratify the criteria for public works contracts, which was designed with input from union leaders and the Las Vegas Interfaith Council for Worker Justice.
