Convicted killer’s strategy denounced by victim’s mother

The mother of a girl killed in a casino restroom says Jeremy Strohmeyer's attempt to withdraw his guilty plea proves he lacks remorse.
Instead of making legal moves, Strohmeyer should be spending every waking moment regretting the abduction, rape and murder of 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson, said Yolanda Manuel, the murdered girl's mother.
Strohmeyer, 21, is attempting to withdraw his guilty plea and face a jury on charges connected to the May 1997 murder. He claims he was given bad advice and bullied into making the plea by his attorney, Leslie Abramson.
"He was man enough to kill someone. He should have been man enough to have a mind of his own," Manuel said.
A hearing on the petition is scheduled for Jan. 10.
Strohmeyer, who is currently in protective segregation at Ely State Prison, claims his guilty plea was not given freely and voluntarily.
Clark County District Attorney Stewart Bell said hundred of similar requests are filed each year, and most are unsuccessful.
"Defendants get convicted and they go to prison, and when they stay there, they find it is not a pleasant place to spend any appreciable amount of time," Bell said.
