Auction to benefit historic hotel
The third annual Christmas Tree Auction to benefit the historic Boulder Dam Hotel will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Community College of Southern Nevada campus in Boulder City.
Cost is $15 per person and $25 per couple. All proceeds will go toward the restoration of the hotel. Call 294-1499.
Renaissance Feast to help scholarship fund
The Nevada School of the Arts will hold its 1999 Renaissance Feast on Saturday in the Sunset Ballroom of the Flamingo Hilton.

Durango High School will host fund-raiser
Durango High School will hold a Daymes and Knights of Durango Renaissance Faire 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 7100 W. Dewey Drive.
Gate fee is $3. Proceeds will benefit Durango's performing arts and student organizations. Call Cheryl Noreen at 799-5850.
Sunrise foundation plans Christmas Box Festival
The Sunrise Children's Hospital Foundation will host the inaugural Christmas Box Festival 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The event will feature various boxes with an array of themed gifts that will be available during a silent auction. Tickets are $135 and can be purchased at the Sunrise Children's Hospital Foundation, 3196 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 307. Call 731-8373.
Conference scheduled Friday at Orleans
The Hospice Association of Nevada is hosting a conference on levels of care and services for patients at the end of their lives 7:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Friday at the Orleans hotel-casino, 4500 Tropicana Ave.
The fee for the conference is $100, which covers the presentations, continental breakfast and lunch. Call 671-1232.
Walker plans annual gifts for families in need
Walker Furniture is sponsoring the sixth annual Home for the Holidays program, delivering a houseful of furniture to each of 20 local families in time for the holidays.
Clark County residents can send a letter to Larry Alterwitz, president, Walker Furniture, 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Las Vegas, Nevada, 89106, on behalf of people in need. Letters can also be hand-delivered. All leters will be reviewed by outside, independent panels, which will assist in selecting the families to receive the furniture.
Letters must be received at Walker Furniture by Dec. 8 when the selection process will begin. The first deliveries will be made on Dec. 17. Last year more than 4,000 letters were received.
Public can help with sponsorships
The Variety Club of Southern Nevada, with the help of Sunset Station and the Henderson Fire Department, will give 150 special-needs children their first bicycles at 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at Sunset Station.
Residents can help support the Bikes for Kids program by sponsoring a bike for a child or contributing to giveaways for the children's goodie bags. All sponsors are invited to the presentation.

UMC offering tour, Victorian tea
University Medical Center is offering a free Victorian tea and video tour for mothers and fathers 10 a.m-noon Saturday at the UMC Bright Beginnings classroom, 1815 W. Charleston Blvd., behind Del Taco.
The informal gathering is to acquaint parents with the labor and delivery and post-partum services available at the hospital as well as free parenting classes. Call 383-7058.
New access available for media center library
Teachers in the Clark County School District now have direct access to the KLVX/Clark County School District Education Media Center library 24 hours daily.
A new Web-based interface program provides access to the entire library system that includes videotapes, films and CD-ROMs. Teachers request the information online, meaning they can access it from their homes or schools.
Before the new program, teachers were required to file a request form and send it via interoffice mail.
Native American Web
The Clark County Library will demonstrate Internet resources on American Indians and their culture in "Spinning a Tale on the Web: Native Americans and our Community" at 10 a.m. Saturday at 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Admission is free. Call 733-1141.
Talking to Alzheimer's
A seminar on how to communicate with a person with Alzheimer's disease will be 2-4 p.m. Friday in Canyon Gate Country Club, 2001 Canyon Gate Drive. Call Aegis of Las Vegas, 240-3070.
