Lady Rebels lose opener to UC Santa Barbara, 77-56

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Kayte Christensen had 15 points and 14 rebounds as No. 15 UC Santa Barbara beat UNLV 77-56 Monday night in the first round of the Women's Preseason NIT.

Stacy Clinesmith added 12 points and six assists for the Gauchos.

Kinesha Davis led UNLV with 27 points. It was the season opener for both teams.

After UNLV closed to 46-39 with 14:50 left, UC Santa Barbara put the game away with a 21-5 run.

Linda Frohlich, who averaged 23.5 points last season for UNLV, was held to seven points before fouling out. Santa Barbara plays TCU in the second round Wednesday.

Kinesha Davis led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Lady Rebels will return home on Nov. 23 to host Southern Utah at 7:35 p.m.
