Education requirements tightened by state

The Nevada qualifications required to be a registered interior designer are changing next year.
On January 1, 2000, Nevada law will require a four-year degree -- accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research -- in order to become a registered interior designer; currently, only a two-year degree is required.
To be registered, candidates will also be required to pass state and national exams run by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification.
However, interior designers with only two years education will be able to bypass the four-year requirement. To do so, candidates will be required to have two years of verifiable interior design study, four years of professional interior design experience, and a passing grade on the NCIDQ exams completed by Dec. 31, 2004. They must also submit a letter of intent to the Nevada State Board of Architecture by Dec. 31.
