Photographer Colby Knight and producer Derek Brown were fired Nov. 1 by KVBC-Channel 3 news director Mike George after it was revealed the two faked footage that the station aired after the Oct. 16 earthquake.
The footage, which also appeared on NBC and MSNBC, depicted the station's news van rocking back and forth.
In a newspaper interview, Knight admitted that he and Brown rocked the van themselves to re-create what they'd seen during the quake. On the raw footage of the tape, Brown can be heard suggesting that they rock the van.
Knight contends he warned station managers not to run the footage.
"I will tell you there was some tape in question and I didn't like what I saw," George said. "I went to the people I felt were responsible for the tape and, as a result of that, there are two people who are no longer employed."
