Letter: Californians find grass not greener

Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 | 8:44 a.m.

We moved to Las Vegas after spending 58 years in California. We moved on account of earthquakes, as we were right in the middle of the last one. We figured on spending our lives here to enjoy the sun, casinos and entertainment. But we have become very disenchanted on the services offered here, especially on transportation of the paratransit buses -- you can't depend on them at all to get you around and pick you up. They have stranded us two to three times in the past.

We are afraid to leave our home for fear of getting shot, run over or being mugged. My wife and I are handicapped and have given up driving after two accidents totaled our cars -- and we are both on canes for the rest of our lives. Both car accidents weren't our fault.

The only solution we have left is to move back where we can depend on getting some help in spending the last days of our lives as we are 87 and 81 years old. We always paid our way.

Yes, we must say that Las Vegas has been a very disappointing venture and will leave, as soon as we sell our condo. We also re-learned a very good lesson: "The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence."
