The son of two-time U.S. Open golf campion Billy Casper was arrested Thursday in connection with a Las Vegas robbery and a string of up to 30 San Diego robberies, police said.
David James Casper, 26, was captured in the 3300 block of West Tropicana Avenue about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
Metro Police also arrested Francisco Beruman and Lisa Llames with Casper. Casper was charged in connection with a Las Vegas robbery of the Bunkhouse Bar. The two others were charged with possession of stolen property, police said.
San Diego police called Metro Police Monday saying that Casper, wanted on a parole violation and suspect in a string of robberies, may be in Las Vegas. He also was a suspect in a California carjacking of a 1996 Audi. He also was believed to have a stolen 1996 Volvo.
Casper was identified as a suspect in Tuesday's robbery of the Bunkhouse Bar. Detectives located the two reported stolen cars on West Tropicana Avenue and waited.
Casper, Beruman and Llames were arrested as they attempted to leave in the stolen cars, police said.
At the time of his arrest, police found a concealed handgun on Casper. A sawed-off shotgun, another handgun and drugs were found in his room, said Lt. Jim Moses of Metro Police's Career Criminals unit.
Billy Casper, who helped design a golf course in Sun City, was recently in Las Vegas for May's Las Vegas Senior Classic golf tournament.
