Speechwriters subject of UNLV lecture

Martin Medhurst, a speech communication professor at Texas A&M University, will examine the practice of using a speechwriter in contemporary politics 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of the 1999 University Forum lecture series.

Employers to hear workplace advice

Dr. Victor DeNoble, former Philip Morris scientist and key witness in the federal government's case against the tobacco industry, will address corporate and government executives regarding smoking policies in the workplace noon-2 p.m. Monday at Drai's Restaurant in the Barbary Coast.

The purpose of the luncheon, which is open to the public but requires reservations, is to enhance awareness among major employers of the cost of smoking among workers and the benefit of helping smokers quit. Call 798-6877, Ext. 238.

Construction women to hold annual event

The Las Vegas chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction will hold its annual hobby fair 6 p.m. Wednesday at 4100 W. Charleston Blvd.

The program will feature a crafts, baked goods and services auction, with all proceeds benefiting the group's educational goals. Cost is $15 and includes the auction and dinner. Call 593-1818.

Main St. The gathering for "The Hercules Legendary Journey" and "Zena Warrior Princess" will be from noon-6 p.m. Saturday, and "Star Trek and Sci-Fi" will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday.
