CARSON CITY -- Susan Moore, employed by the University and Community College System of Nevada since 1996, has been named director of the new Nevada Millennium Scholarship Program.
The appointment to the $65,000 a year job was announced today by state Treasurer Brian Krolicki. Moore has been coordinator of the distance education and K-12 outreach programs at the Desert Research Institute. She is the wife of Richard Moore, president of the Community College of Southern Nevada.
The treasurer's office will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the scholarship program created by the 1999 Legislature at the request of Gov. Kenny Guinn. It provides up to $10,000 over four years in scholarships for Nevada high school students with a "B" average or better.
Krolicki, in announcing the appointment, said Moore's "years of professional experience and educational background as a counselor, classroom teacher and department chair, while serving at the K-12, community college and university levels brings a unique degree of hands-on knowledge and skill to this position."
