Letter: Remember veterans today
Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 | 9:26 a.m.
I'm sorry I tried to forget you for so many years,
But I hope you understand that I had my fears.
I can still see your dog tag on your boot lace,
The poncho over body and face,
For life you showed no trace.
You looked and seemed so alone,
So far from your home.
I did not know what color you might have been,
It did not matter, you still felt like kin.
Even though I tried to keep you from my mind,
Because of the emotions that I would find.
I could not forget that day in '69,
For you and the rest they have built a shrine.
Since you had given your all,
Your name is somewhere on that wall.
And on the wall I have many a friend,
Just like them I'll remember you to the end.
