A reception for Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, D-Ohio, the first black congresswoman to be elected from her district near Cleveland, will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at the San Remo hotel-casino, 115 E. Tropicana Ave.

Course on data mining scheduled
Bern Carey, the director of Northern Arizona University's Center for Data Insight, will present a free seminar on data mining, also known as knowledge discovery in very large databases at 11 a.m. Friday in the auditorium of UNLV's Harry Reid Center, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Call 895-4240.
Insurance Women ready for auction
The Insurance Women of Las Vegas Inc. will hold its 10th annual "Christmas in November Auction" beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the San Remo hotel-casino.
The group's big fund-raiser will underwrite its scholarship program, educational programs and other projects during the year. Cost is $23. Call Janet at 365-9800 from 8 a.m-5 p.m.
Osteoporosis tests offered Saturday
The Belz Factory Outlet World is sponsoring low-cost OsteoDex osteoporosis bone mineral density testing for those age 20 and older 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday in front of the Green Food Court near the main entrance of the Belz Outlet Mall, 7400 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Money raised will support the Osteoporosis Foundation/Silver State Support Group in Nevada. Call Kim Boucher at 458-0651.
Officers Wives' Club holds craft bazaar
The Nellis Air Force Base Officers Wives' Club is holding its annual fund-raising craft bazaar 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the base Officers Club.
Proceeds will go to various charities and scholarships. Civilians are welcome but must have a valid photo identification to be permitted on base. Call 652-2750.
Nellis prepares Retiree Apreciation Day
Nellis Air Force Base is sponsoring a Retiree Appreciation Day 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in Building 20 on the base.
New identification cards will be issued, drawings held by Information, Tickets and Tours department, and information sessions held hourly until noon. Call 652-2750.
Employment fair to be held at Nevada Power
Sierra Pacific Resources' newly merged utilities, Sierra Pacific Power Co. and Nevada Power Co., will be holding job fairs at their headquarters in Las Vegas and Reno 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Close to 200 positions will be offered in such areas as accounting, engineering, marketing, telecommunications and research.
In Las Vegas the job fair will take place in Nevada Power's Pearson Building cafeteria, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Call (877) 834-8100.
