Wildfire takes a beating in Elko County

Fire information officer Barbara Cook said cooler temperatures and scattered showers helped firefighters all but contain the Signboard Fire 40 miles northeast of Wells.
The fire was 90 percent contained Tuesday morning, and was expected to be put out by Wednesday evening.
No homes were damaged and no major injuries were reported. The fire burned grass, sage and juniper.
Farther north, the 3,200-acre Trout Two Fire was put out Monday evening near the Idaho border after burning a small portion of northern Elko County.
The blazes were among the region's largest wildfires to ever burn so late in the season. More than 1.6 million acres of land was blackened across the state this year in Nevada's worst fire season on record.
