Letter: Billboards won’t erase lawyers’ negative image
Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 | 9:15 a.m.
I was catapulted into the legal system when my fiancee was killed last year. As a co-guardian of my fiancee's daughter we hired a lawyer to file suit for wrongful death.
While that case was going on, my lawyer had another case against me in which he took my deposition in an antagonistic manner. This left me hurt and confused.
My lawyer should have been disciplined for this conflict of interest and should have been denied his huge attorney's fee. Yet a local judge ruled my lawyer was entitled to his near million dollar fee even though the judge seemed to acknowledge the conflict.
I have now been forced to present the matter to the Nevada Supreme Court at my expense.
For the legal profession to exercise self-discipline would do more for its image than billboards will ever do.
