Alban, Van Meetren head volleyball squad

After leading their teams to berths in this week's 4A state girls volleyball tournament, Silverado's Addie Alban and Bishop Gorman's Jamie Van Meetren have been selected the MVPs of the Sunrise and Sunset Regions, respectively, by area coaches.
Alban, the Skyhawks' senior setter, headlines an All-Sunrise team that also includes teammate Ashlee Kordestani, Green Valley's Malia Koelliker, Basic's Danielle Dodgen, Chaparral's Katie Nihipali and Las Vegas' Adrianne Page. Silverado's Pam Sloan was named Sunrise Coach of the Year.
Van Meetren, a senior opposite hitter, is joined on the All-Sunset team by Durango's Jennifer Johnson and Danielle Boyack, Bonanza's Jen Olewinski, Cheyenne's Emily Delong and Centennial's Kristen Sagers. Gorman's Ed Van Meetren, Jamie's uncle, was selected Sunset Coach of the Year.

Area boys soccer coaches have named Bishop Gorman's Boomer Arbelaez and Palo Verde's B.J. Freeman Sunset Region MVPs.
Las Vegas' Eric Santiago and Silverado's Mike Eshragh shared MVP honors in the Sunrise Region.
Joining that quartet on the All-Southern Nevada squad are: Gorman's Joseph Zaher, Durango's Dale Adams, Valley's Alvaro Moreno, Las Vegas' Angel Moreno, Vo-Tech's Dennis Trujillo, Chaparral's Omar Bywaters, Cimarron-Memorial's Daniel Hayden and Palo Verde's Bryson Wright.
Clark's Keith Wipperman was selected Coach of the Year in the Sunset, while Vo-Tech's Josh Jones and Valley's Gina Howard shared Coach of the Year kudos in the Sunrise Region.
