Man kills wife, self in hospital room

Police said the 67-year-old man became upset when a doctor at Desert Springs Hospital asked him for permission to perform a procedure on his wife. She had been hospitalized since Tuesday after suffering a stroke.

The man left the hospital, retrieved a gun from his home and returned to his wife's room. Police said he pointed the gun at an employee and ordered the employee to leave the room. He then shot his 71-year-old wife in the head before shooting himself.

Police said the husband apologized for his actions in a note found at the couple's home.

The names of the victims were not released.
