Kiel Ranch

The Friends of Kiel Ranch Historic Site host the inaugural Western Heritage Festival and Cowboy Poetry Gathering today through Sunday at the Cheyenne Sports Complex and Community College of Southern Nevada on Cheyenne Avenue. Demonstrations of traditional Western arts and square dancing, a chautauqua, gold panning and a salsa and chili cook-off are among scheduled activities. Local pioneers

"Old Bill Williams, Mountain Man" will be the topic of a program at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, near Red Rock Canyon, from noon to 1 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. Saturday. Jim Wilson, a Las Vegas Valley pioneer, will be the subject Sunday. Admission is $5 per vehicle. Call 875-4141.

Japanese traditions
