Concerns seen for minority students

An activist group that maintains minority students are not getting a fair education plans to make its voice heard at a press conference Monday at the Clark County School District administrative offices.
Topping the Alliance for Social Justice's agenda will be the new superintendent being sought by the school district.
"We think we have an obligation and a duty to impact that process," said Patricia Cunningham, the group's chairwoman. "We're going to ask the district to look for certain things in the superintendent candidates, like how they have addressed the needs of minority students in the past."
Cunningham said the group also will address the quality of education given to minority and at-risk students.
"A lot of it has to do with parents not taking responsibility for their children's education," Cunningham said. "This organization will work to engage parents in their children's education and to work alongside of teachers."
The press conference is planned at 11 a.m. at the school district offices, 2832 East Flamingo Road.
