LV company acquires escorted-tour firm

Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999 | 10:48 a.m.

Las Vegas-based Lowestfare.com, a discount travel company formerly known as Global Discount Travel Services, has acquired a Kansas company that specializes in escorted tours and vacations.

Maupintour, Lawrence, Kan., is a 49-year-old company that operates MaupinTrek, action-oriented tours that include whitewater rafting, mountain biking and safari camping, and MaupinWaterways, which offers leisure trips on rivers, canals and small ships in Europe.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ken Swanton, chief executive officer of Lowestfare.com, said Maupintour brings a more varied type of tour product to his four-year-old company.

Last month, Lowestfare.com announced a partnership with TheStreet.com to become a travel services resource for the financial information website.
