George Funk lived near the vacant lot on Cashill Drive where the boys found a leg bone over the weekend, police said.
Police said Funk had left a 14-page letter indicating suicidal tendencies when he disappeared in 1997.
An autopsy could not determine a cause of death because of the condition of the body, but authorities don't suspect foul play.
