Letter: In Bush family, it’s truly ‘like father, like son’

Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 | 9:35 a.m.

In a matter of days the story died a sudden death from "kill all negative GOP stories syndrome."

A few days later a reputable, well-established publisher recalled all copies of a book on the subject, "Fortunate Son." The author alleged that former President George Bush approached a judge and asked that George Jr.'s record be expunged. The request was accommodated, according to the author.

George Sr. vehemently denied this allegation, threatening to sue the parties for slander.

What a good idea! Let the truth prevail! Don't leave us doubting the man who would be president and his father who said he would never lie even though his lips did. If neither Bush lied, then the author did. Let the courts decide.
