Charges will be filed against ex-prosecutor accused of scuffle

Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 | 9:41 a.m.

Carson City District Attorney Noel Waters decided Tuesday he will file charges against David Stanton, former chief deputy prosecutor in Washoe County.

The Nevada Highway Patrol sought the charges after Stanton was stopped for speeding on his motorcycle in Carson City. The patrol said Stanton was doing 67 mph in a 25 mph zone and that he scuffled with a patrolman after he was stopped.

Washoe County District Attorney Richard Gammick asked for and received Stanton's resignation on Friday. The two charges to be filed against him are misdemeanors.

Stanton got some good news in the unrelated civil case.

Washoe County District Judge Jerry Polaha dismissed a 3-year-old lawsuit filed by a Reno man who accused Stanton of false imprisonment.

Tim Scott had accused Stanton of assault and other charges in a 1996 traffic run-in after Scott had made an obscene gesture at Stanton.
