Vegas-bound flight returns safely to Cleveland, despite complications

Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 | 11:23 a.m.

CLEVELAND -- A Las Vegas-bound flight that developed a hydraulics problem returned safely this morning to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The pilot of an American Trans Air 727 charter with 180 people aboard radioed to the tower that the flight was headed back to Hopkins. The ground crews began working on the problem, according to airport spokeswoman Yalinda Moore. Wes Bement, a spokesman with the airline's ground-services contractor, said the flight would leave this afternoon with a replacement plane.
