Local girl still missing; search efforts aided by ‘America’s Most Wanted’ series

Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 | 11:25 a.m.

The syndicated television show "America's Most Wanted" broadcast a segment about missing 7-year-old Las Vegas girl Karla Rodriguez over the weekend, prompting more telephone calls to police that are being checked out.

Metro Police spokesman Steve Meriwether said this morning new information has not surfaced. A renewed hunt Saturday, however, may help in getting out information.

Rodriguez was last seen playing with friends about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Bonita Avenue, northeast of the intersection of Sixth Street and St. Louis Avenue on Oct. 20, police said.

When she disappeared she was wearing a black jacket, a blue and white shirt and red pants. She is 3 feet 6 inches tall, 50 pounds with shoulder-length black wavy hair and brown eyes.

Police know that Rodriguez's mother walked her daughter about halfway to Park Elementary School, 931 Franklin Ave., about 7 a.m. Wednesday from their home in the 700 block of St. Louis near Bonita.

Park Elementary School officials said that Rodriguez did not report to school Wednesday morning.

Police say that when Rodriguez did not return home Wednesday night her parents thought she was staying at a friend's house. She was not reported missing until Thursday morning.

Anyone with information on Rodriguez's whereabouts is asked to call police at 229-LOST or 229-2907.
