Hanlon promises move back to his area

Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 | 9:45 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Bill Hanlon, a member of the state Board of Education, continues to live outside the Clark County district he represents, but he says the attorney general's office feels he doesn't have to resign.

He said Friday he will move back into District 2 around the first of the year. He originally planned to return on Oct. 1.

He left the district this summer and sold his home to be with his daughter, who gave birth ti twins. He said his daughter has now asked him to stay through Christmas.

The law says each member of the state board must be a resident of the district in which he or she was elected.

He was elected from Subdistrict F, which includes Lincoln County and the northern part of Clark County. He moved into Subdistrict G, which represents Nye County and a northwest part of Clark County. That district is represented by Frank Mathews.

Hanlon, coordinator of the Math-Science Institute for the Clark County School District, said he still owns property in Subdistrict F. He previously likened the move to an extended vacation.
