How to prevent Hantavirus

-Put hay, wood, and compost piles far away from homes.
-Store hay and wood 12 to 18 inches above the ground so mice cannot burrow underneath.
-Get rid of trash and junk piles.
-Don't leave food or water for animals where mice can get them.
-Store food, pet food and livestock feed in inaccessible places or rodent-proof containers.
-Air out closed-up buildings before entering.
-Trap mice until they're gone.
-Clean up nests or droppings by moistening areas with a disinfectant such as a 10 percent bleach solution.
-Don't sweep with brooms or use vacuum cleaners in mouse-infested areas.
-Wear rubber gloves to handle trapped or dead rodents.
