Three victims identified; crash similar to accident three years ago

Friday, May 28, 1999 | 9:35 a.m.

The victims in Wednesday's crash were identified as Florence Martinez, 72; Mary Cotter, 83, and Ethelyn Gataino, 79.

The three were killed when the tread on the car's left rear tire came off, causing the driver to lose control and skid off U.S. 95. The vehicle overturned several times.

Boulder City Police Sgt. James Reed said the accident comes almost three years to the day after a May 31, 1996 accident killed three seniors on the same stretch on U.S. 95.

In the 1996 accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which slammed into a tractor-trailer. Authorities say the vehicle went out of control when tread on the left rear tire separated.
