Henderson Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Thursday after his mother discovered what looked like a bomb under the bed and then delivered the device to the police station.
At about 7:30 a.m. the boy's mother arrived at the police station and told a detective she had a device in her trunk she thought could be a bomb, police said.
The woman told the detective she found the device under her son's bed.
The detective determined the device could be a bomb, and the Las Vegas Fire Department's bomb squad was called to the scene.
The police station and were evacuated, Lt. Jutta Chambers said, but the device was ruled to be a hoax.
"A hoax device is not explosive, but is manufactured to resemble an explosive device," Chambers said. "In this case the device had wires and batteries making it look legitimate."
The 17-year-old was charged with one count of manufacturing and possessing a hoax explosive device.
"If a strange device is discovered, it should never be moved," Chambers said. "These types of devices should be left alone and should not be brought to the police station. If found, police should be notified, and everyone should get away from the device."
The charge against the teen has been sent to the Clark County District Attorney's juvenile division, police said.
