Taxicab bill amendment passes

The Assembly agreed to an amendment added by the Senate to AB193, a bill that initially dealt only with only automatic telephone dialing systems.
Now the bill, which goes to Gov. Kenny Guinn for his approval or veto, also calls for $500 to $1,000 fines against club owners who pay cabbies to divert passengers to their nightclubs.
The bill's provisions would apply only to strip clubs, and not other kinds of nightclubs or businesses.
During a Senate hearing, witnesses said undercover stings by the Nevada Taxicab Authority and a television station have found that in 30 percent of the cases strip clubs were paying cabbies to take passengers to their clubs even though the passengers initially wanted to go elsewhere.
