Man charged in sexual assault

Friday, May 28, 1999 | 11:19 a.m.

A convicted sex offender has been charged with fondling one patient and sexually assaulting another at Summerlin Hospital on Thursday, according to police.

Roy Alan O'Guinn, 38, of North Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on five counts of sexual assault of a victim over 65, one count of battery with intent to commit sexual assault and one count of open and gross lewdness, police said.

Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan, head of the Sexual Assault and Abuse unit, said O'Guinn was not an employee of the hospital and was not visiting any patients when he entered the facility around 8 p.m. Thursday.

He said O'Guinn entered the room of one patient, fondled her and then ran when the woman ordered him to leave and paged a nurse.

The man then entered the room of a female patient over the age of 65.

Monahan said a nurse saw O'Guinn sexually assaulting the patient.

"O'Guinn tried to flee the hospital, but a Summerlin Hospital security officer caught him and detained him for police," Monahan said.

Monahan said O'Guinn was convicted of sex offenses in California in 1980 and in Nevada in 1989.

O'Guinn was registered as a sex offender with both Metro Police and Nevada Parole and Probation.
