Two held in slaying, wounding at complex

Two suspects in the shooting death of Leonard Harvey, 35, and the wounding of a 28-year-old man at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard have been arrested, according to Metro police.

Anthony Tywan Lucas, 17, was arrested without incident at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday at a residence in southeast Las Vegas after police received information on his location, according to homocide Lt. Wayne Petersen.

A short time later, the second suspect, Alans David Hopkins, 18, was arrested at a North Las Vegas residence, police said.

Investigators believe the two victims had a confrontation with Lucas and Hopkins early Wednesday. According to witnesses, the suspects shot the victims around 2 p.m. in retaliation for the earlier confrontation.

Both suspects have been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

Harvey was found shot at the Desert Springs Apartment complex, 100 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Harvey and a 28-year-old man were taken to University Medical Center, where Harvey died shortly after arrival. The 28-year-old was treated for a gunshot wound in the shoulder and released.

Three suspects sought in business heist

A business located in the area of Western and Sahara avenues was robbed by three armed suspects Wednesday at 9:15 p.m., according to a Metro police detective.

The suspects are also responsible for a robbery that occurred at a business in the area of Spring Mountain Road and I-15, according to Metro detective John Hanover.

The suspects entered the business pretending to be customers. They then approached the sales clerk and demanded money, while one suspect brandished a gun.

Anyone with information regarding these robberies is urged to call Metro at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Partially clothed male there for a few days

The body of a partially clothed, adult male was discovered Thursday about 7 p.m. in a vacant lot in the 4700 block of East Woodland Avenue, according to Metro homocide Lt. Wayne Petersen.

The body appears to have been there for a few days, Petersen said. The identity is unknown and a cause of death won't be determined until a medical examination has been completed at the Clark County coroner's office.

Fugitive from Illinois nabbed at Strip hotel

A man wanted on charges stemming from a drug-related kidnapping and shooting in 1994 in Illinois was arrested this week at a Strip hotel in Las Vegas by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Toriano Bohanna, 27, is charged in East St. Louis, Ill., with kidnapping, battery with a firearm and parole violation, said a spokesman for the agency.

Authorities said Bohanna, who was arrested Wednesday night at the Thunderbird hotel, has stayed periodically with his cousin, James Bohanna.

Judge won't let LV man change defense

A judge in Galesburg, Ill., has denied a request from a Las Vegas man to hire new attorneys or act as his own lawyer in a murder trial.

Knox County (Illinois) Circuit Judge Greg McClintock said Thursday he would not permit two court-appointed attorneys to withdraw from representing Las Vegan Clyde A. Best because of the lengthy delay it would take for new lawyers to become acquainted with the case.

Best, 19, was charged with first-degree murder in the March 29, 1998, slaying of fellow Knox College student Andrea Racibozynski, 19. She was found bludgeoned to death with a brick at Best's dormitory in Galesburg.
