Suit filed over kosher products

Thursday, May 27, 1999 | 11:12 a.m.

The union is asking for $9,540 in damages in its lawsuit, filed in Clark County District Court against Crown Laboratories. The union also wants a judge to force the company to return the kosher labels.

The union alleges it signed a contract with Crown in January 1997 that would allow Crown to label its products as acceptable for kosher use. As part of that agreement, Crown was provided with kosher labels.

The pact required Crown to allow union representatives to inspect the products on a regular basis. Crown refused to let union inspectors supervise the process, and the union canceled its contract, the suit alleges.

Crown is now in default on $6,825 in payments, and refuses to return the kosher labels, the union claims. The suit didn't state what product was being produced.

The defendant couldn't be reached for comment.
