A confrontation between two teenagers and two men became fatal on Wednesday when shots were fired, leaving one man dead and another wounded at a Las Vegas apartment complex.
Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday Metro Police dispatch got a call of gunshots at the Desert Springs Apartments, 100 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
Leonard D. Harvey, 35, and a 28-year-old man whose name was not released were discovered by police lying on the grass between two apartment units near a courtyard area.
Both men were transported to University Medical Center, where Harvey died shortly after arrival. The 28-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and is listed in fair condition at the hospital, a UMC nursing supervisor said.
Police said the two men appeared to be involved in a confrontation with two teenagers earlier Wednesday.
Witnesses told police that the two teens returned to the complex just before 3 p.m. and opened fire on the victims to retaliate for the earlier incident, Lt. Wayne Petersen said.
K-9 units and Metro's helicopter air unit were called to the scene but were unable to locate the teenagers.
The teens were described as 17 years old and black. One had a four- to five-inch Afro haircut. The other was about 5 feet 3 inches tall.
Anyone with information is asked to call Metro's homicide section at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
