Man to fight addition to Black Book

Thursday, May 27, 1999 | 11:15 a.m.

Reached at his Chicago office, Pascente confirmed he still plans to fight the nomination, and that he will attend the hearing. In March, Pascente told the Sun he would likely fight his nomination.

In the early 1990's, Pascente served 16 months in prison and three in a halfway house for his role in a Chicago-area mail fraud scheme. He feels he's adequately paid his debt to society and sees no reason why he should be banned from state casinos.

In nominating Pascente for the Black Book, the state Gaming Control Board cited his felony conviction and alleged associations with reputed mob figures. Pascente says he is being unfairly linked to the lifestyles of people he grew up with and knows, but has no business relationship with.

In March, Pascente was arrested at McCarran International Airport on his way home to Chicago for failing to register with police within 48 hours of his arrival in town. Pascente said he was here to confer with his attorney, John Momot, on the Black Book case.
