Letter: Government wants to change thoughts
Thursday, May 27, 1999 | 9:31 a.m.
In another job setting, a restaurant, a person applies for a food server's job who is known to sleep around on his spouse, often with those with whom he works.
The ability of each of these people to do their job -- take my child to the movie, keep animals in their cages and serve food -- was not an issue when they were not allowed to proceed. Their moral character was, however. Should you side with me on these examples you have what many would call high morals.
With the imminent passage of Assembly Bill 311 you'll have to leave your moral compass at home, though, because homosexual behavior becomes a protected civil right. It is a civil right you will be required to embrace and support, which goes way beyond the buzz word of the day, tolerance.
Don't panic, though. The state will only be requiring those businesses with more than 15 employees to adhere to the new law. I guess they figured they would dictate moral standards to the largest employers first, then go after the small business owners. This is social engineering at its best!
But watch out. Today the government only wants to change your behavior. Tomorrow they will be after your thoughts as well.
