Fire Explorers, the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue program that provides high school and college students the opportunity to learn about firefighting as a career, will be accepting new members in June.
Students attend classes and drill sessions at the Fire Training Academy and participate in fire department activities.
They learn to combat fires in training buildings but do not participate in extinguishing actual fires.
Explorers must be between the ages of 15 and 21, maintain a 2.0 grade-point average, have no criminal convictions and be able to attend meetings at the training center every Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
The orientation meeting will be 7:30 a.m. June 6 at the Las Vegas Fire Training Center, 633 N. Mojave Road. For more information, call 219-8437.
