NLV: City Council certifies results of primary election, revote

Monday, May 24, 1999 | 10:15 a.m.

The North Las Vegas City Council unanimously certified the election results from the May 4 primary and Thursday's revote at a special council meeting Friday.

Marcia Blake retained fourth place and a spot in the general election with 1,220 votes. Ron Long came in fifth with 1,148. Incumbents William Robinson and Paula Brown earned 2,181 and 1,844, respectively. Planning Commissioner Shari Buck held third place with 1,386.

Candidates have three days to request a recount.

Early voting for the June 8 general election begins today at City Hall and continues through June 4. Registered voters can cast their ballots between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for two of the four candidates vying for two, four-year City Council seats.

The 1999 Legislature passed a bill last week that would require the city to be broken up into wards, and while candidates would still run at large, they would be required to live within the ward in which they run.

City Attorney Richard Maurer called for the revote after two voting irregularities were discovered in the May 4 primary election results. Two candidates -- Blake and Long -- were separated by two votes.
