Desert Springs Hospital is recruiting high school and college students, 15 and older, to volunteer at the hospital this summer.
To qualify, students must complete an application, undergo a tuberculosis test and work a minimum of four hours per week. For more information call 369-7782.
Eagle honors received by Southern Nevadans

Families needed to host foreign students
Academic and Cultural Exchange, a nonprofit group that sponsors foreign exchange students to and from the United States, is looking for families to host a foreign student for the upcoming school year or semester.
Students are ages 15-18, well screened and fluent in English. They arrive in mid- to late August and come with their own spending money and insurance.

Cheyenne student will represent state in contest
DeShawna M. Whitmore, representing Cheyenne High School, was recently crowned Miss Nevada's 1999 Homecoming Queen.
She advances to the finals July 22-27 in Anaheim, Calif., to compete with other state queens for the title of "America's Homecoming Queen."
Walker receives honor as a leading volunteer
Jeffrey Walker, a Green Valley High School student, was selected for his community service as one of Nevada's top youth volunteers of the year in the 1999 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
Jessica Rosman, another Green Valley High student, received a certificate of excellence. The awards honor middle and high school students at the local, state and national level. Nearly 20,000 volunteers were considered this year.
Scholarship
Neil Ryan Guieb of Las Vegas was awarded the annual Station Casinos Inc. Academic Scholarship to UNLV. The scholarship is awarded annually to the child of a Station Casinos Las Vegas employee.
Variety of activities planned at park
Celebrate America, an all-day event offering sporting events, interactive games , live music and drama, food and fireworks, will begin 7 a.m. May 31 in The Hills Park in Summerlin.
The park is located west of Rampart Boulevard on Hillpointe Road. Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 the day of the event. Admission is free for children 7 and under.
Registration for an 8 a.m. 4-mile Celebrate America fun run and walk starts at 7 a.m. Preregistration is $15; registration the day of the event is $18. Tickets can be purchased at Family Christian Stores, Lemstone Books, and West Valley Assembly Church, 8100 Westcliff Drive. For more information, call 242-2273.
Sponsors needed at annual Nidetch event
UNLV is looking for companies to be sponsors or recruiters at the Jean Nidetch Women's Center's sixth annual Community Job Fair '99.
The job fair will be 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the Moyer Student Union. More than 3,000 job seekers are expected. Booths are $200. Sponsorships start at $300. Call 895-4475.

Camp Superkids, the asthma camp, will be held on July 30, 31 and Aug. 1. The deadline for registration is Friday. Call the American Lung Association of Nevada, 431-6333.National Health and Fitness Day will becelebrated from 8-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Whitney Senior Center. The event is free and includes a Tai Chi demonstration, exercise and stretching routines, a walk in the park led by the UNLV Rebels mascot, and health exhibits.
Women's conference planned June 12 at Rio
The American Heart Association and Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center are hosting the third annual Women and Heart Disease Conference 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12 at the Rio hotel-casino.
Presentations will focus on coronary heart disease, the sign and symptoms of the disease and what women should do when experiencing problems. Call the American Heart Association at 367-1366.
