The federal government is asking the public to comment on how to make extra water from the Colorado River available to Nevada, California and Arizona.

Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt and the Bureau of Reclamation plan to conduct public hearings in June over dividing annual surplus river water among the three Lower Basin states, since they are demanding more than the 7.5 million acre feet of available water.

A public hearing will be scheduled in Las Vegas during June, Interior spokesman Paul Bledsoe said. The public comment period closes June 30.
