Supreme Court refuses to hear appeal of Nevada death row inmate

Monday, May 17, 1999 | 7:33 a.m.

The high court today refused without comment to hear the appeal of Nevada death row inmate Donald Sherman.

The Nevada Supreme Court earlier refused a similar appeal.

A jury convicted Sherman in Las Vegas two years ago in the beating death of Lester Bauer, 63, in his Sun City home.

The jury learned he was on parole for another murder in Idaho and was told by prosecutors that Sherman had plotted to escape the Clark County Detention Center by killing guards.

He was convicted in the 1981 slaying of an Idaho grocery store owner, and was out on parole at the time he killed Bauer.
