Delia's Cleaners Inc., a Kansas City, Mo., company with 360 stores in 14 states, acquired the company that owns Al Phillips The Cleaner Inc.'s Nevada operations.
Terms of Delia's acquisition of the Johnson Group Inc. were not disclosed.
The 14 Las Vegas-area stores will retain the Al Phillips name and Robert Shapiro, who joined the local operation in 1993, will continue as president. He will take on oversight of Delia's 38 stores in San Jose, Calif., and 18 in Phoenix.
Shapiro joined his father, Phil Shapiro, and his uncle, Melvin Shapiro, in Las Vegas after working in dry-cleaning operations in Salt Lake City and Aspen, Colo. He was named president of the company in 1995.
Phil and Melvin Shapiro acquired Al Phillips in 1964, selling the company in 1984 to the Johnson Group.
