Letter: Organizer of food drive is appreciative
Monday, May 17, 1999 | 12:56 p.m.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the residents of Clark County for their unparalleled support of the 1999 Letter Carrier Food Drive. We were able to collect more than 565,000 pounds of nonperishable food for the needy in our communities.
The citizens of Southern Nevada have proven that we are a generous, compassionate and united community, and the letter carriers cannot thank you enough for your support.
Although I don't have the space to be able to thank everyone who participated in our drive, I would like to take the time to thank the U.S. Postal Service and all its employees who assisted the letter carriers in our food drive. The United Way and the AFL-CIO Community Services also deserve thanks as co-sponsors, and all our brother and sisters in the unions in Southern Nevada who also volunteered their members, trucks and time.
Last but certainly not least, I would personally like to thank the more than 1,500 letter carriers in Southern Nevada who so selflessly donated their time and their backs to pick up all the donations. I have never been more proud to be a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers than I was on Saturday, when the letter carriers all arrived with their mail trucks full of food.
Because of your efforts many of the needy will go to bed with a full stomach and a smile on their face, knowing that they have not been forgotten by their communities.
