UNLV rodeo teams host regional

The UNLV rodeo teams are gearing up to defend their No. 1 ranking in the Grand Canyon Regional finals Friday and Saturday. Both the men's and women's teams are ranked first in the region and are aiming for the national finals in June at Casper, Wyo.

The Grand Canyon Region, comprised of schools from Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico, will hold the finals in Las Vegas at the Rocking K Arena located a mile east of Tenaya and Rome. The tournament starts Friday at 7 p.m. and concludes Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets, priced at $5 for general admission and $10 for VIP seating, are available at the Thomas & Mack Center or at the door.

The Rebels have won the regional championship and placed in the top five at the national finals every year since 1993. Last year UNLV set a single-year point record for collegiate rodeo and individual team members have won all-around championships in three previous years.
