Wednesday, May 5, 1999 | 10:02 a.m.

Reporter and columnist Melissa Schorr, 26, was among journalists from India, Korea, Switzerland and the United States who will devote a full academic year to study at MIT.

Schorr said she will use the fellowship to develop an expertise in women's health.

"I think there's a lot coming up in genetic testing, cloning and fertility treatments in the next century," she said. "I'd like to investigate where those intersect with public policy."

The others selected are David Chandler, 51, of the Boston Globe; W. Wayt Gibbs, 30, of Scientific American magazine; Karen Hopkin, 35, free-lance writer; Ganapati S. Mudur, 36, of The Telegraph in Calcutta; Andreas Schriber, 42, of Swiss Television DRS in Zurich; Shin DongHo, 38, of The Hankyoreh, a 500,000-circulation daily in Seoul; Peter Spotts, 48, of Christian Science Monitor in Boston; David Talbot, 34, of the Boston Herald.
